Acrylic Centerpieces

Each year, the Four Freedoms Park Conservancy invites contemporaries to speak in honor of the park’s work and founders. The park celebrates their achievements with an event attended by donors, partners and friends. This year, the director was looking for full event design including furniture, layout, staging, florals, centerpieces and interactive installations.

This year’s theme was centered around the First of the Four Freedoms: Freedom of Speech & Expression. This freedom includes the written word, artwork, speech and protest among others. I created and wrote copy for these Custom Centerpieces featuring artwork by Shepard Fairey and public domain photographs of journalists and well-known progressive movements.

Acrylic Centerpieces: Each centerpiece had a description for the featured image or artwork, its context in history, and why it was included as a prominent moment in the event.

Acrylic Centerpiece: Hear Our Voice by Liza Donovan for the Women’s March 2017. Promoted by Amplifier Art

Acrylic Centerpiece: Journalist Tom Brokaw was an honorary speaker at the event

Acrylic Centerpiece: Vietnam War protest and activism featured with public domain image of young people

Acrylic Centerpiece: The We The People series became new symbols of hope to combat the rising power of nationalism, bigotry, and intolerance after Inauguration Day in 2016. This series and image, by artists Shepard Fairey, Ernesto Yerena and Jessica Sabogal, promoted by Amplifier Art, depicts a Muslim woman wearing an American flag as a hijab.
