Custom Pin Centerpieces

For this year’s event, the theme was in honor of the park’s founder, William Vanden Heuvel. He was an American attorney, businessman, and diplomat known for advising Robert F. Kennedy during his campaigns for Senate and President in the 1960’s. In the spirit of activism and campaigning, the event director wanted as many interactive elements as possible in the design and layout.

Instead of typical florals, I created these Custom Pin Centerpieces with nostalgic protest pins. I designed each pin to represent the Park, the political campaigns with which Vanden Heuvel was involved, and the messaging behind each.

For the event, a friend of the Park loaned their personal collection of protest & war pins from the 1960s era. Using their collection, I created Custom Vinyl Decals as more décor on the park walls. The Pin Centerpieces added to this collection in physical form: Newly designed pins both with retro and current styles communicated the park’s focus.

Each attendee could reach into a centerpiece and take home pins as a memory of their activism and participation. The bottom of each vase was filled with green seeds, another small conceptual element to the design.
